Categories: Logo Design News

It is not Prince this time. This time, it is Yahoo! Yea. According to a TechCrunch report, Yahoo is experimenting with the all-new purple logo with a bit curvier, purple and thicker font.

Moments ago, it has been confirmed that Yahoo has agreed on a non-exclusive deal with Google around search and search advertising. A shocking revolution, isn’t it??

Whoa… that IS news! To be honest, I thought the original logo would have been around for many more years– but I guess they felt it was time for a change.

In recent years, we’ve seen a lot of businesses who have been around for years go back to logos they used 50+ years ago. I think there’s a lot to be said for integrity in a solid, original logo. Yahoo’s original logo is an example of one with integrity, humbleness, and tradition (as far as tradition in an internet revolution 15 years past goes…). The purple logo strikes me as vaguely familiar, lacking character, and perhaps suggests a vintage sci-fi movie look and feel. Is that what Yahoo is interested in conveying?
