    The New Adobe Photoshop Logo – what’s with the hole dude???

    Of all the design applications that are being used commercially, Adobe Photoshop is the most popular, extensively used and widely appreciated. Recently, the Adobe family suddenly decided to change itsOld Adobe Photoshop Logo Photoshop logo and this face lift has not been successful in achieving appreciation (or even approval!).

    The old Photoshop logo was a simple one, with just a ‘P’ and “s” written in white, with a blue background. Its size was somewhat more compact and smaller if compared to the new Photoshop logo.

    New Adobe Photoshop LogoThe new Photoshop logo has a distinct, readable font with ‘Photoshop’ in a large font and the slogan ‘See what’s Possible’ in a smaller one at the bottom.

    The font of the new Photoshop logo is bold and distinguishing and the three dimensional icon seems to present a ‘P’ in its speech bubble like appearance. The logo size is small whereas the font is large and prominent. The new Photoshop logo seems to spread out if compared to the previous compact one. The colors used are the same, i.e. white and blue (in lighter tones, though!), but the new version of the Photoshop logo has black added to it as the font color, which gives a more formal tone to the logo and makes the font prominent.

    However, after all the creativity exercise, this new Photoshop logo has received a lot of criticism. Everyone was well associated with the previous, simpler version of the Photoshop logo and the condemnation is basically over the speech bubble. What does the Photoshop logo have to do with a speech bubble? And what is the hole trying to imply? These questions remain a mystery to the millions of users of this golden digital imaging standard. According to many, instead of creating a professional outlook, Adobe has unfortunately come up with an amateur look for its Photoshop logo.

    About Adobe Photoshop:
    Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems. It is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image management. Known as the industry standard for graphics professionals, Photoshop is the flagship product of Adobe Systems.

    About Adobe Systems:

It develops and markets various design softwares including the widely used Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash Player, and Adobe Acrobat. The company recently acquired its long time competitor, Macromedia, a graphics and Web development software house, producing similar design and imaging products.

      OK, this is stupid. I’m still wondering about the old, old logos. A butterfly? A feather? WTF? When they went to the “new” old logo, I was stoked because it was easy to associate icons to applications. As you can see below:

      Feather = Photoshop?
      Ps = Photoshop :)

      Nice and easy. Designers are visual, but I don’t need to decipher a metaphorical icon every time I want to edit a photo.

      Now this bubble thing, I mean really. Whoever is doing their branding should be fired. This is ridiculous. Not only does the logo look completely dumb, but the tagline is even worse. The logo reminds me of the logos in Microsoft Office for Mac. They probably have the same agency do this logo. Utter garbage.

      Your blog rocks. Post more often! Pleeeease? :D

      While the square “CS3″ version of the logo says little about Photoshop itself, it is part of a fairly clever scheme to brand the application as part of the Adobe Creative Suite. Each application has a logo that looks like one element in the Periodic Table, so they make a much stronger impression when seen together than individually. I like this idea better than the “pretty flowers” logo system they used for CS1 and CS2.

      If Adobe found a new logo system for their next suite that kept that same sense of unity but also hinted at what each application was used for then they would have a winner.

      I was actually a huge fan of the full set of CS3 icons/logos. I loved the simplicity of it all, and I think in terms of brand recognition, Adobe did a great job at associating simple two-letter combinations with their products.

      This is the first time I’ve seen the new identity and I’m as disappointed as everyone else seems to be. I’m also equally lost on the whole speech bubble/”P” concept for the logo. For a company promoting design software, they’ve certainly missed the mark on this one. I’d recommend hitting ctrl+z.

      I must say, that I am a fan of the Adobe CS2 set of Icons (although, I still like the CS3 ones too). Yeah, they’re very illustrative - but to me, they conveyed a really powerful message about each program via metaphors that need not be deciphered, rather associated with the individual components. The new “logo” is brilliant, though….brilliant in the fact that this is the first logo I’ve ever seen that has served the purpose of totally destroying a strong branding presence in the adobe CS. Well done adobe “designers” - now will you please find another job! Great post by the way…

      Okay, Im not sure I really liked the Ps thing but anyway, I also don’t understand how the logo is associated with the software’s function. Actually, I think the hole thing is supposed to go with the slogan i.e see what’s possible as in peer through the hole.Like the bog.keep on.

      Man, is that ugly.

      Without the hole, it’s a speech bubble. I’d assume it for was a chat app. If it’s supposed to be an amalgamation of the ‘P’ and the ‘S’ then the slant should be on the other side, methinks. Either way, I still can’t believe this got past senior designers, marketing and PR.

      ADOBE!!! please don’t do this to us…
      why would i want that logo to represent the photoshop i so proudly display on my object dock???!!!???
      i say give me ten mins with the bozo who put this together and I’ll give him a gelatin heart,
      seriously, I don’t want to ever have anything to do with this logo. I am staying with the good “new” Ps Logo!

      BTW: Adobe, methinks its time some pple got fired!

      lol wtf… i think cs2 had the best logo’s, the later logo’s went downhill.
      i don’t know how they could have released that hideous thing, clearly there aren’t much people liking it..
      shame on adobe~
