Sesame Street turns 40! The widely known children’s program has come a long way in 40 years, so it deserves a celebration. The show began on November 10th 1969 and is the longest running children’s television program on US TV. Google has proudly modified its logo to commemorate the joyous event with characters from the show. Jim Henson’s Muppet characters bring the educational series to life, adding personality and entertainment to the educational program.

Today was Cookie Monster and yesterday was Big Bird. What other characters will Google feature? Most likely the very popular Elmo will make an appearance.

It’s hard to keep a child’s attention span for very long, but Sesame Street has done a great job keeping kids both entertained and educated. Since the show has been around for so long, even adults have fond memories and favorite characters. The adults have passed on the tradition and perhaps Sesame Street will have another 40 yrs to go! Happy Birthday Sesame Street!

Halloween is such a fun holiday. It’s an opportunity to dress up, eat chocolate and have a scare fest. The Holiday usually means parties, food and friends and it is a fun little break from the ordinary everyday. Like most holidays, Halloween is also a booming market for retail sales and opportunities to create themes for amusement parks, stores or online sites. This is also a great opportunity for fun and frightful Halloween logos!

Of course the pumpkin is a great, classic symbol for Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Fall season in general. It’s one of the first things anyone thinks of when this time of year rolls around. They symbol is used in many logos to show their festive side and it is a great image for artistic creations. Here, YouTube replaces their known TV symbol with a square shaped pumpkin for that perfect Fall season feel.

Apple’s logo transforms from an apple to a pumpkin pretty easily, although I only think the stem should have been green or brown. Apple does traditionally use one color for their logo, so I guess they were staying consistent to their theme and brand identity.

How can there be a Halloween without the constant replaying of one of the many Halloween movies? The buildup to Halloween is one of the best parts of the holiday. It’s fun to look forward to a month or week of scary movies, decorated houses and stores overstocked with candy. The movies have always been my favorite part. When it comes to great horror films, new titles are always fun and refreshing, but on that particular night, tradition is always the better way to go.

I personally enjoy when candy companies create Halloween themes for their candy wrappers. This is the biggest day of the year for them so it would make sense for them to go all out.

Every year, it seems like new Halloween stores pop up, but since costumes are expensive, some competition is a good thing.

Google, being known for its constantly changing logo, also participates every year in showing off a great Halloween design. These are a few nice ones from the past, but I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with for this year.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!

Pumpkin carving is a great afternoon activity during the autumn season and since Halloween is quickly approaching, it’s the time to get carving to display your creation on that enjoyable night. Pumpkin carving isn’t about just cutting out a face or your traditional jack-o-lantern anymore. Over the past few years, stencils for pumpkin carving have become a huge hit. After the the idea caught on, it seems many people have become creative and made stencils of their own, which include some popular logos!

It seems to be a given that President Obama’s logo would make it to pumpkin carving popularity. I’m sure many doorsteps will have this one on display this Halloween.

Mickey on a pumpkin in a common site around this time. Disney theme parks have their own Halloween celebration, in which their logo has a mickey face made out of pumpkins on advertisements for their attraction.

This carving required some skill, mostly because the frog’s hand is standing up on it’s own. I have attempted these kind of pumpkin carving designs and the unsupported piece of pumpkin always seems to sink in or collapse from the heat of the candle inside. I assumed it was the famous WB frog, isn’t it?

The Starbucks logo looks great this way and there are no actual cuts made into the pumpkin. It’s an interesting technique.

I think it’s scary that the Twitter site crashes so much that the image of the flying whale from their “over capacity” page is this well known that someone carved it into a pumpkin. You would think Twitter would have fixed that by now, considering how often it is used.

Out of dedication to all you bloggers out there, I am happy to the throw the wordpress logo into this mix. With so many great ideas, pumpkin carving takes a whole new turn this season, bringing so many famous logos to light. I can’t wait to see them all displayed! Happy Carving!

There are so many reality shows about dancing now. We have “Dancing with the stars”, “So you think you can dance”, “America’s best dance crew” and “Dance you a$$ off.” Even “American Idol” has dance sessions. Obviously, there is a bit of a dance craze going on in the television world right now and because of this inspiration, everyone wants to learn to dance. This puts a lot of pressure on professional performers because just singing at a concert isn’t enough, there must be visual attraction and lots of dancing. I guess that’s a good thing though, because if I am spending 80 plus dollars to see a show, i would expect to be entertained!

A silhouette of a ballet dancer is a very common design style for dance studios. You can see in the rest of the logos how this design approach, or some sort of variation, is used quite often. The Dance Umbrella logo stands out a bit more since they incorporate the umbrella cleverly into their design.

This design was a bit odd to me since there seemed to be so many design ideas to go with a name like “Prism Dancers.” I don’t think they used the name to its full potential. I would assume that a rainbow of colors would be involved in this. Frankly, the design is a bit dull and incredibly disappointing.

Footlights is a mix of dance and theater, therefore their design is a bit different from the overdone ballet dancer look. They did a nice job utilizing the drama masks and spotlight. It really sets them apart from the others.

I don’t think that many people can flex their body like the above logo, but it’s a great advertising tool because that silhouette makes me want to learn how.

Hopefully business has picked up for these dance studios with the dance craze at its peak. Everyone wants to learn how to dance with the stars or get in better shape through fitness dancing. It is a more interesting trend that will hopefully stick as time goes on and the reality shows get cancelled.

With the summer upon us and vacation season off to a good start, it seems that traveling is on the minds of so many overworked people. When you think of traveling, the first thing that pops into your head is usually travel plans such as airline tickets, hotel bookings, and car rentals. All of these businesses are in the midst of their busy season, so their advertising should be spot on. Since a logo is the best way for a company to brand themselves, logos for the travel Industry must stand out and be recognizable.

These are probably the most known airline logos, which can be seen on the tail of the planes that proudly display them. Since vacations are something people usually cut out in a bad economy, airlines must promote themselves even more to make profits, especially this year. An airline’s best bet is to provide the best and make sure their logo is classy and ensures secure service and trust among travelers. What vacationer would trust their lives with an airline if the logo or reputation was bad?

The Internet has made so many things easier and one of them is hotel bookings. Companies like Travelocity, Hotels.com or Expedia will search all hotel listings and place them at your fingertips. They even allow you to sort through the results by price or location. It really makes traveling much easier, although there is a lot of competition among these companies. Which one is best? A better logo can offer a better first impression when the site pops up on the web. It is important for them to brand themselves among this growing conveniences.

Rental car companies generally have plain or basic logo styles, but as long as the name and service is recognizable, it works well to promote the company. A lot of them are local companies and not as known. Those smaller businesses must label what they are, although Hertz and Budget and known just by the name without the need to have the words “rentals” written within the logo.

Summer is one of the most enjoyable times of the year and a vacation is always a great and relaxing way to enjoy it. Happy Travels!

Times are tough. The economy is collapsing. Everyone has been talking about it. It’s in the papers, on the news, online and even at the jobs we no longer have. I think I speak for everyone when I say, we are sick of hearing about it. How can anything get better when everyone is miserable and terrified of what’s going to happen next? Sometimes things are a little beyond our control and letting it victimize us isn’t going to help anything, so why not laugh about it? Optimism is the key. The glass is always half full, things will get better, blah blah blah, although mockery has always been America’s best defense, we may as well continue the tradition. Check out some possible post-recession logos of some of the worlds leading brands:

Here at LogoBlog, things are changing for 2009. You will notice that on the left hand of the screen, the design firms and company reviews have been removed. I did this after much deliberation about how to accurately verify all the reviews LogoBlog receives everyday and how to best serve LogoBlog’s mission

Due to the anonymous nature of the internet, online review sites, and lack of time and resources, I cannot always be 100% sure about the accuracy each reviewer and review.

From dissatisfied customers and competing logo companies, to people who have a grudge to bear, it is a difficult task to moderate and verify the accuracy of each claim made here at LogoBlog.

Since one of the main points of LogoBlog’s mission is to provide fair and independent reviews it would be unacceptable not to give every review the time and attention to detail in deserves. LogoBlog will get there someday, but that day is not today.I thought it best, to just remove the reviews and scores, and concentrate on other portions of the site.

So, while the scores, and reviews may be gone, we are not going anywhere. LogoBlog will continue to exist as a resource for logo news, logo design tips, and logo design resources.

Has it really been ten years already? Can you think back to the days before all of life’s answers were only a couple of keys and a click away from your fingertips? Google has revolutionized how we locate, spread, and view information.

I cant even remember the last day that went by when I didn’t use Google even once. The one company in America who probably needs the least pats on the back gets another one again this year. The big one “o”, Google has reached double digits and not just in stock pricing.

Google’s revolutionary success has come with their interesting company culture. With rumors of game rooms, and play breaks, most in the public have often wondered what exactly goes on behind those doors.

What we do know however is what Google shows us every day on their homepage. Each birthday, holiday, and sometimes seemingly random day, Google revises its logo for the day. Most recently, another birthday celebration.

Here are some of the older birthday logos.

I am a huge fan of Google logos, but its early years didn’t do it for me. It could have been that Google was young and inexperienced in birthdays, but it seems as they approached their preteen years, they truly matured. My two favorite logos, the ninth and tenth birthdays.

On Google’s ninth birthday they released the logo above. While color is no surprise to this logo, the creativity of incorporating the g, 9, and piñata all in one design is a treat to look at. If you watch the progression from year to year, 2007 was definitely their coming out party.

Here it is, the new Google logo. Happy birthday, you deserve it. Unlike their first birthday logo, this cake is accompanied by a party. By adding hats, bows, and an exclamation point, Google really put the pop in this birthday celebration.

What doesn’t get better with time with Google? Can’t wait to see what they come up with next year. I can only hope they don’t start to resent their birthdays as much as I do my own.

Which logo is your favorite? Do you know any other interesting birthday celebration logos? Share Them

With the 2008 Olympic Games here, it is hard not to catch the spirit of international competition. With 302 events in 28 sports, the games offer a vast field of athletes the opportunity to represent their country on a global stage. While often overlooked, selecting the stage itself however is very much like a competition. Just like the athletes who tirelessly train and prepare for the games, cities and their respective countries also put a great deal of preparation into possibly being chosen as a host city.

Among the mountains of paperwork, media attention, structural capacity, and required support of Olympic committees, cities also need to create a logo. While it seems insignificant, Olympic logos seem to draw so much attention that they can seem to sway the public’s opinion about where the international games should be held. It is currently 2008, and discussion over not the next Olympics Logos, but that of 2016 has already begun.

There are four final applicants for the summer games of 2016. Chicago, Rio, Tokyo, and Madrid. Each of which has already created an initial logo for their potential Olympic events.
