- LogoBlog Poll 6– Global Brands that Translate Power in their Logo
-
In an age, when products, services, and concepts are all crossing barriers due to globalization, certain ‘Global Brands’ have managed to achieve what others can only dream of. In addition to being valuable, these global brands are identified with powerful logos that deliver highest levels of recognition, distinctiveness and popularity to their respective products and services.
But with so many existing global brands, it is hard to conclude which one of them actually translates power in its logo, or in other words, proves to be an effective and strong brand image. Hence, we chose the top six global brands and put them in a poll to see which brand appeals the most to the viewers. It included: Coca-Cola, Microsoft, IBM, GE, Intel and Nokia. Consequently, Coca-Cola emerged as a clear winner of the LogoBlog Poll with 30% of total votes.

This victory of Coca-Cola stems from the fact that the brand is one of the most powerful entities in the world, stamped on people’s mind for decades. Ever since it was created, the Coca-Cola brand has remained largely unchanged and unmodified, which is why it further guarantees worldwide recognition among a very diverse population of people. As for the runner-ups, IBM, Intel, GE, Nokia, and Microsoft followed the list of global brands that translate power in their logos, with each getting 28%, 13%, 11%, 9% and 9% of votes respectively.
Congratulations to Coca-Cola for winning the LogoBlog Poll.

- LogoBlog Poll 5 – Choosing from a Variety of Logo Types
-
A logo is characterized as a dominant emblem or signature mark that relays origin, identity, or ownership. The foremost purpose is to draw out recognition. The objective of a logo is to act as an identifier, to communicate a desired idea or feeling, and to create an effective emotional reaction. A stimulating logo design can strengthen your product’s image and business identity, thus defining the nature of your company or organization.
And so in view of the importance of a logo design for an organization, we found it relevant and important to ask you which type of logo you prefer for your business.
Last week’s logoblog poll gave you four choices - iconic/symbolic logos, logotype/word mark logos, combination marks and illustrative logos. We gave you these choices because they are the most basic and widely used logo designs. Well the results are in, and iconic/symbolic logos took the lead with an impressive 6 out of 16 votes, closely followed by illustrative logos which attained 5 out of 16 votes. The word mark and combination marks received 3 and 2 votes respectively.

Judging from the results you might agree that a strong graphic symbol for a product emblem is highly valued. It gives more personality to your company and is more distinctive as opposed to the other logo types. Congratulations to the iconic/symbolic logo for achieving first position and thanks to you guys for participating in our poll. Until next time ciao!

- LogoBlog Poll 4 – Inappropriate Office Wear
-
Why in the world do people go wearing flip-flops and T-shirts to the office? At the beginning of the 90s, the ‘causal business attire’ trend, or ‘business casual’ as it is commonly called, began to be a part of every office environment, and at the end of the decade, the trend boomed.
According to the Society for Human Resource Management, 95 percent of the U.S. companies had some sort of casual day policy in place in 1999, compared to the 24 percent in 1992. Furthermore, the casual clothing manufacturer, Levi Strauss, estimated that about 75 percent of Americans went to office daily wearing casual clothes in 1999, whereas only 7 percent in 1992.
But what does all this have to do with logos and logo design? What’s its significance to the designers? Well, a lot actually. It turned out that this ‘business causal’ trend has been a constant aspect of designers and designing firms. No other business category has been infiltrated with this casual movement than the designing industry. But often, this trend is distorted by many people who rather than dressing up casually, take steps further and totally give a new meaning to the ‘business casual’ trend by wearing shorts, singlet, and other ultra-casual things to the office (I still remember a professor of mine, who use to come to the class wearing flip-flops in the winters).
Thus, the reason behind this week’s LogoBlog Poll is to conduct a survey of our viewers’ perception about this trend and things that are inappropriate to wear at work, no matter how casual they look. So, what is the most inappropriate casual thing to wear to work, well: it’s Flip-flops. Other inappropriate things include Walk Shorts, Singlets, T-Shirts, Jeans. Additionally, some visitors also voted and added other options like Sandos, Swimming Costume and Sandals.

Therefore, it’s confirmed that flip-flops are the most inappropriate things to wear to work. Thus, avoid these at all times for the sake of this trend. Let’s not portray a bad image of this comfortable business attire. Until next week, happy casual living!

- 2008 US Presidential Campaign logos – LogoBlog Poll
-
It’s that time of the week again when we announce our winner for the LogoBlog Poll. Last week’s poll was about the upcoming 2008 Presidential Campaign logos. We asked our viewers and readers to vote for their favorite logo, out of the 5 nominations from the 2008’s US Presidential Campaign. We narrowed our selection of 2008 Presidential Campaign logos to those of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Jim Gilmore, Rudy Giuliani and John Edwards.

Among them, Barack Obama’s campaigning logo got the highest percentage of votes, thereby winning the week’s LogoBlog Poll. His logo got 42% of votes whereas, Clinton’s, Giuliani’s and Edward’s got 13%, 21% and 17% respectively. Jim Gilmore’s campaign logo received a disappointing 8% of the total votes.
Without a doubt, Obama’s presidential campaigning logo was the best in the bunch and probably one of the best so far. Thus, it isn’t a big surprise to see Barack Obama logo win this poll. On the other hand, the response to the Clinton campaign logo was surprising. Despite having a strong design, Clinton’s logo did not even manage to grab the second place partly due to the slogan ‘For President’ in it. Goofy, isn’t it? Don’t we all know that Hillary is running for President? Duh!
As for the winner, Obama’s logo is the only logo in the campaign that has a theme of a new horizon on America. When others were busy trying to tell people that they are running for president, Obama’s campaign intelligently defined his presidential motives in their logo, while also advertising the campaign.
Congratulations to Barack Obama’s Presidential logo for winning the LogoBlog Poll.

- Superhero Logos - LogoBlog Poll
-
And we’re back with our 2nd LogoBlog Poll results. Last week, the question of our poll was “Which of the following Superhero logos is intelligent, relevant, and fantastic?” Our options included: Spiderman, Batman, Fantastic 4, X-Men and Superman. Our choice for last week’s topic stemmed from several factors. Among them, one is the growing curiosity and increasing interest of people in famous comic heroes.
For a few decades now, moviegoers have been fascinated by screen adaptations of ingenious fictional characters that adorn the silver screen by their super-human persona and amazing superpowers. Apart from being physically incredible, all these superheroes have been symbolized with some form of figurative logos that make these characters even more exhilarating. Secondly, many people of all age groups cherish these creative logos as they represent their favorite superheroes. Interestingly, our choices of the superhero comic series have been made into successful animated and science fiction movies over the course of past two decades. Thus, we felt that these superhero logos are worth putting into a visitor poll.
As for the result, it was a clear win for Superman, getting 12 votes out of 26 making a hefty 26% of total votes. At second place we have a tie between Spiderman and Batman logos (no wonder) each getting 5 votes. At fourth, it’s the Fantastic 4 logo winning 3 votes, while the X-Men logo finished last, getting just 1 vote.

Congratulations to the Superman logo for winning the LogoBlog Poll.
Many thanks to our online viewers for taking part in our LogoBlog Poll on Logo Design Blog, updated weekly on Logo Design Blog.
