3 Essential Qualities for a Successful Restaurant Logo Design

According to a survey conducted by Strategic Name Development, a brand name consultancy based in Minneapolis, USA, ‘a restaurant logo design should be simple and easy to read but not so simple that it loses distinction and fails to communicate the restaurant concept to consumers’.

The restaurant logo design is often the only marketing strategy for the restaurants to advertise their eatery and to attract customers if no or little publicity is being done. It is important for the restaurant logo design and name to convey the proper message of the restaurant, which includes
the meals it expects to serve, the atmosphere the customers can enjoy when they dine-in and what concept the logo carries. It is also important for the restaurant logo design to be distinctive, simple, and easy to read. These attributes do not only provide character to the restaurant logo design but also assist in the business growth by motivating the customers to dine-in.

The following are the 3 essential qualities for a restaurant logo design to work and attract customers:

1. NAME
The ‘Pizza Hut’ logo plainly expresses the restaurant’s food offering with its name.A restaurant’s name is the foundation of its logo. It also quickly and easily conveys the restaurants’ menu and environment offerings. As the business expands, the name becomes a trademark of the restaurant and remains its identity even after additional offerings are available. Thus, it is necessary for the restaurant logo design to feature the name in a distinctive manner. Examples of such names include Nacho Nana’s, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc. all of which convey a sense of the menu and ethnicity of the food provided in these restaurants.

2. DESIGN
This restaurant logo design of ‘Angelonis’s II’ clearly represents the ethnicity of its food offering by showing the wine and grapes which is synonymous to Italy. If a restaurant’s name is its foundation, the design is its building. Like other building, the design should compliment its foundation and environment. A restaurant logo design should be distinctive and relevant. You can not expect a sophisticated, Italian restaurant feature an animal on it (even if meat is the main course!). Yet, a classy italic writing style and a bottle of wine will brilliantly tribute the Italian atmosphere.

3. COLOR:
The official branded logo of McDonald’s Corporation with its trademark red and yellow colors and initial ‘M’.Why it is that there is no picture of Ronald on McDonald’s logo; after all Ronald is synonym to McDonald’s? The letter ‘M’ with its red and yellow color is so powerful that any image would detract from its effect. That’s the whole thing about color scheme in logos. A color scheme is as important for a logo, as the other two qualities. It should be according to the mood and flow of the restaurant and should be distinctive and easily recognized by the people.

So the next time you are planning to open a restaurant or changing your restaurant logo design (if you already have one) for that matter, do consider these essential qualities before finalizing your, “restaurant logo design”.
