Mocked Classic Art: Work that hits the Funny Bone

Categories: Logo Design Tips
Written By: Nora Reed

The history of art dates back to times that cannot even be recorded. From cave drawings to graffiti, art is a major part of all of our lives. We know so many famous pieces so well, that we even mock them. They show up everywhere! In comic strips, TV shows, movies and more, classic art is appreciated but also made fun of. Since finding them all would take a lifetime, I found a few good examples that I thought were enjoyable and worth a chuckle or two.

The Mona Lisa is a classic piece that is mocked over and over again. Apparently there is a lot that you can do with a simple portrait of a woman smiling. I’m sure Da Vinci would be proud to see how far his work has come, as long as he had a sense of humor.

The Simpsons is a show that uses classic art for comedy all the time. They had so many famous mockeries that it was hard to choose the best, so I included all that I could find.

Marge Mocked Art

The Simpsons’ artists tend to reuse the same ideas such as displaying both marge and Lisa as the girl with the pearl earring. It happened in the show from time to time, but it just goes to show you that a classic never dies.

The saying goes that mockery is the best form of flattery and I do agree. These classic pieces of work are mocked because they are so well known and historic. Perhaps in a few years, the artists we have today will see their work mocked in the media. How else do you know you’ve become famous?

76ers Go Back to the Basics With their Logo Design

76ers New and Old Logo Design

Just in time for the NBA draft, the Philadelphia 76ers have recently changed their logo by reverting back to the original design that they had during their glory days of the late 70s and early 1980s.

Their marketing department must feel that the old design is a symbol of luck and it was time to rid themselves of their current curse, much like the Detroit Lions did earlier in the year. The Lions modernized and modified their existing logo in hopes of changing their image from consistent basement dwellers to winning NFL franchise.

It seems to be a trend with sports teams to wash away the bad luck demons and start fresh with a new logo. It makes sense if you believe that a team logo is a lucky charm. If this is true, wouldn’t a team mascot be just as responsible for delivering bad luck to a team? If you change one, shouldn’t  you change the other as well?

Changing a team’s logo will sometimes subvert the never ending cycle of a losing sports team. A bad season leads to poor ticket sales, low merchandise revenue, and a general lack of funds. What does a sports team need money for? Better Players! How does a team raise money to field a winner? By Repackaging and reselling all new jerseys, hats, apparel, and assorted gear, a sports franchise rebrands itself into a winner, and in turn collects the necessary money needed to sign highly valued free agents.

A team should be responsible for their own luck. If they can’t win a championship, don’t blame the logo, just play better!

A tube of mirrors. It sounds like such a simple concept, but the results it creates are nothing less than amazing. Kaleidoscopes are not really around as often as they used to be, but as a kid, I remember having one and using it as inspiration to create art. Today, with digital technology at our fingertips, its much easier to create breathtaking, kaleidoscope inspired art that looks like you are peering directly thorough the mirror filled tube. Take a look at some of these masterpieces.

Free Microsoft Advertising: Windows Logo embedded in Wallpaper

We all know of the corporate giant that Microsoft is and how it has taken over the computer world, but is it right that they advertise their logo in their wallpapers? Sure, I admit that some of them look pretty cool, but I think that the windows logo, ruins the design. Why would I want a Microsoft ad appearing on my computer screen all the time? All it does is remind me of how frustrated I get when Vista has one of its numerous glitches or saves a document as a “docx” file. Of course I understand self branding and promoting your company, but sometimes it’s just too much. Maybe if certain versions of Windows had less problems, then I wouldn’t mind seeing their logo in my face everyday.

Microsoft has enough money that they don’t need to advertise on all of their own products. If you have them, then you already spent money on them. What kind of greedy company are they that they are going to force you to see their logo all the time?  Oh right, what am I thinking?…Microsoft is no different than any other corporate giant. They must know what they are doing to become a giant in the first place, but if that’s true, then why does the operating system they created in 2001 far and away excel over their latest 2007 release? I guess you can’t do it right everytime.

A Logo for your Special Day: Wedding Logo Designs

It’s wedding season and although I’m sure that any upcoming wedding has already been planned well in advance, there are still little details that no bride wants to forget. So much work goes into planning a wedding that it is easy to let small things go unnoticed, but sometimes those simple things can help make that special day complete.

Along with needed items such as a veil, dress, flowers and so many others, each couple should also have their own appropriate logo. A couple’s wedding logo goes on most things such as the invitations, the cake, the place settings and even thank you notes, so its best to choose something elegant that reflects the couple’s personality and/or wedding theme. Logos can be pre-designed or custom, depending on how far you would plan to take it. They are a wonderful addition and really add a little something extra.

Themes are great for weddings. They can be based on the destination of the honeymoon or the location of where the wedding is taking place, a personal reference to where the couple met or anything else that may be important to them. Overall the theme helps tie everything together and has a great look. Tropical themes are usually popular and the above hibiscus flower is great for hawaiian honeymoons or beach themed receptions.

A wedding logo is a great addition to a formal affair that can add a little pizazz to a reception and wow your guests. It seems that even a small wedding ends up being a lot of work to pull together, but it’s the flow of the day and the enjoyment of the guests that is important. It goes by so fast and it’s important to make it memorable.
