A few weeks ago, I blogged about the Unofficial Big ten logo contest held at Mycroburst. The contest was pending a public polling with 5,652 Big Ten fans voting for their favorite logo design. The poll has finally come to an end and the winner and runner-
up have been announced. The winning design was made by Alan Tuohey, a graphic designer from Wheeling, Illinois. Tuohey. His entry won with 1900 votes (34%) and prize money of $500. Anthony Tscherne from Bowling Green State University was adjudged runner-up with 1,515 votes (27%) and a case prize of $250.

The contest and its winning logo design received much acclaim on the blogosphere with ESPN blog also expressing their admiration on the efforts

by Owning to extreme fan response, CEO Zaheer Dodhia decided to go one step further and wrote an open letter to the Commissioner of Big Ten, Jim Delany. On behalf of the thousands of Big Ten fans, Mr. Dodhia has encouraged the crew at Big Ten Conference to reconsider their new logo redesign. For your interest, here are some interesting excerpts from the letter:
“Fans are not running to stores to buy apparel with the new logo. They are running to the internet to complain about it.”
“The winning design garnered 34% of the votes, while runner-up logo got another 27% of the votes. And your logo, Commissioner Delany? Your Big Ten logo only got 3% of the votes.”

“We are happy to offer you either the first or second place logo, with complete trademark rights, for free. If you can’t make up your mind, you can have them both. These logos are clearly more loved and accepted by the fans than the one you chose. The Big Ten conference definitely deserves better.”

Let’s wait and see how the commissioner of Big Ten Conference replies to this open letter. Will he approve of this offer or all voices will fall on deaf ears? Click here to read…
