Written By: Nora Reed

The logo design field has, over the last few years, evolved immensely. With the growing technology, newer and faster ways of logo designing have surfaced. Among the innovative alternatives, Do-It-Yourself (DIY) is the hottest trend in the marketplace at the moment. But at the same time, confusions surround the blogosphere as to whether logo design software is

Do-it-yourself is a concept that provides online tools of designing your work yourself. These tools include logo design software like logosnap.com and logomaker.com. That reminds me, we also provide our readers with free logo software under the “logo maker” section. So let us examine what are the merits and demerits of using logo design software.

Advantages of Logo Design Software:

Before coming to negative conclusions on something, one must also learn to acknowledge the benefits that materialize from them. So let us first see how logo design software helps in designing logos.

Fast and Convenient:

Picture this. You are about to launch your business in a day and all of a sudden you notice that you are lacking an identity for your company. Now what to do? You’re running out of time and can’t find the solution. Here is where logo design software comes in handy. The best element of using logo design software is that you get a logo design within minutes.

It’s absolutely FREE:

In this day and age, you don’t even get water for free. So when you’re getting a logo design for free, why not avail the opportunity? Logo software enables small business owners and entrepreneur with fewer budgets, to get their brand identities made free of cost. Besides, what have you got to lose when you got have to pay a single penny?

You’re in command:

The best part about logo design software is that you are in command of the logo design. That is pretty much the concept of Do-It-Yourself (DIY). You can use software like these to design the logo of your choice and desire. It also gives you the opportunity to unleash your creativity and come up with the perfect logo design in a jiffy.

Easy as 1, 2, 3:

Another great quality of online logo design software is that they are easy as pie. In a few simple steps, you are ready with your logo design. You simply have to pick the symbol from the list of options, customize your logo, and voila! You have your free logo within minutes.

Disadvantages of Logo Design Software:

Everything has its merits and demerits, and logo design software is no exception. So let us now discuss the demerits and analyze if they outweigh the merits.

Possibility of Copyright Issues:

It is said that great minds think alike. Same goes while designing logos. But you have to be extremely careful of logo plagiarism. The problem with logo design software is that Images and designs are mostly standardized. So there is likelihood that what you choose is also used by someone else.

Limited Design Options:

As I mentioned earlier, the images, symbols and designs are mostly standardized, so there is limited option to choose from. You don’t have the option to use what is in your mind. But you can still customize the preset designs.

Lack of Professional Expertise:

One thing is for sure, if you’re not design savvy, you may face difficulties using logo design software. When a layman designs a logo through software, he lacks the professional expertise and proficient capabilities to carve out a decent logo. In the process, they might end up making logo design mistakes.

YOU DECIDE!

On a whole, I believe that every new method and route should be explored and logo design software is a very good alternative for people who cannot pay for a professional logo design. If you can afford to obtain a professional logo design, that’s well and good. But if you cannot, then why not use free logo design software?

Back in the day when designers were hard to come by and very expensive, this software might have been a great option for small business owners. In today’s world, I wouldn’t take the risk of using “free” software when it comes to my brand identity. There are so many designers out there willing to create a professional logo for a small fee (maybe $200 – $500). If you can spare this amount, I’d say you’re better off just forking it over. You’ll be happy you did in the end.

A logo designed by professional has its own unique value. After all it is a matter of identity, so you cannot use any ‘online design software’ to define your brand.
