One trophy, 12 contending teams, and only one winner! The 2012 ICC world T20 battle is on again. The international championship which has been introduced rather recently has truly captivated the minds of all cricket-lovers, young and old alike.

The inaugural event took place in South Africa in 2007 in which India became the first ever Twenty20 champion. Pakistan won the second T20 championship hosted by England in 2009. The 3rd T20 champion’s trophy was captured by none other than England itself which happens to be the first ever ICC tournament won by the English. The fourth tournament is currently being held in Sri Lanka and we have yet to discover this year’s ultimate prizewinner.

The T20 cricket fascination always starts, like any other tournament, by the launch of its advertizing logo. Fans spend months waiting for the official logo design of this championship. Meanwhile, they create various amateur logos to spark general interest on social networks and other fan-made websites dedicated to cricket.

Let’s have a look at the official logos of the past four ICC Twenty20 world championships.

SOUTH AFRICA – 2007

Bold colors, forms, and shapes – the first ever logo of ICC world T20 championship had all the vivacity and brilliance of South African culture and Cricket. It was a perfect amalgamation of the spirits of sports and culture. The colors red, blue and green represent the feathers associated with African wildlife and the solid forms speak of the frenzy of movement and excitement of a tournament of only 20 overs in which every ball is precious to earn a four or six. India became the first champion of this tournament by beating Pakistan in the final.

ENGLAND – 2009

The 2009 logo of Twenty20 world championship is all about progress, cultural development, and industrial revolution which is what the British are known for. The clean and calculated format, matt orange and hedger blue colors and the circular motion around ‘0’ represent the focused approach of the British towards advancement and the continuous revolution of society and culture they have been through. The ‘0’ can also be interpreted as the playground of T20 world cup which rightfully becomes the centre of attraction for the whole world throughout the tournament. The former runner-up Pakistan earned a splendid victory against Sri Lanka and defeated them by 8 wickets.

WEST INDIES – 2010

Cricket is arguably the main sport in West Indies. The color scheme of light, medium, and dark colors, perhaps, signify the historical and geographical features of the country. The British West Indies is an archipelago in and around the Caribbean Sea. It was ruled for many years by the British Empire. The sweeping strokes of the word “T20” and the ones around ‘T’ represent the fusion of African culture with cricket. The 2010 trophy was won by England after an exciting match against Australia.

SRI LANKA – 2012

The 2012 official logo of the tournament was released by the International Cricket Council on September 22, 2011. It is named “modern spin” by the Australian graphics designing company Witekite. The designer has used Sinhalese script in red and orange which symbolizes the feverish pitch of excitement and the fire it generally ignites into the hearts of cricket lovers. The letter “T” forms a spin bowler, ‘2’ is probably a batsman hitting a shot and ‘0’ represents a cricket ball.

With the tournament still on, we’re all waiting to see who comes out victorious and becomes the 2012 world champ of T20. Let us know what you people think about the ICC T20 logos.
