Being a logo designer isn’t as easy as some clients believe. It is a thoroughly professional sub-field within graphic design that requires utmost specialization and dedication to perform. To design a logo design requires a great deal of creativity and technical skills of software suite. But one of the most common work-related issues that trouble many logo designers is the lack of productivity. Since the job of a logo designer is mostly associated with on-computer work, they are prone to several problems and hindrances that diminish their productivity levels. But if we carefully mend our ways of work, we can easily increase our efficiency and get more clients. Being in this industry for quite some time now, I have learnt a few ways through which logo designers can preserve their energies and achieve optimum productivity. |
1. Be wise, Always Organize: |

| Some logo designers consider that since there is minimum paperwork in their line of work, there is no need for organizing work. But this is where you’re mistaken my friends, because when you work on a logo design project, heaps of files are created on the computer. Many a times, during the project you are trying to locate a file and just don’t remember where you saved it. This wastes most of your precious time and you end up losing productivity. Make sure you organize your project and client files at least once a week. |
2. When you’re tired, get inspired: |
| Sometimes, logo designers exert so much pressure on themselves that they get mentally exhausted. In the process, they lose their true productive levels. So whenever you feel like your brains are out and you can’t think of anymore brilliant ideas, take time out and visit some design inspiration sites. This will take your mind off the pressures of work and reignite your thinking process. |
3. Create ease, Use shortcut keys: |

| Most of a logo designer’s work is accomplished on software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Hence it is essential for you to memorize the commonly used keyboard shortcuts so that you don’t have to navigate your way to select a certain tool. For example, instead of using your mouse to select the ‘Move Tool’, simply press the ‘v’ button. You will notice how using the keyboard shortcuts will save countless hours of your time. |
4. Don’t procrastinate, participate: |
| Another common reason why some logo designers aren’t able to perform to their potential is because they tend to procrastinate. They will spend their time here and there instead of doing something constructive. What you need to do is, instead of wasting your time, participate in the designer community and make a name for yourself. Take part in design forums and discussions. |
5. Be up to par, Visit a design seminar: |

| Each day new and innovative techniques of designing spawn. Logo designers must keep themselves up to par in order to be competitive in the marketplace. In order to be more productive, you should attend design seminars and design exhibitions that are informative and useful for your career. |
6. Know your Social Media limits: |
| Social media is a blessing as well as a curse for logo designers. It helps us in staying connected with the design community, while on the same time, contributes to procrastination. Although logo designers should be aware of social media and online marketing terminology since many clients ask about technical jargons like Search Engine Optimization. But we must also know our limits of using social media and not get carried away. |
7. Keep intact, sign a contract: |

| A valuable chuck of logo designer’s time gets wasted on clients who don’t pay. When you have to run from pillar to post to get your payments, you productivity is likely to fall. In order to keep yourself intact from all this mumbo jumbo, always sign a contract before accepting any logo design project. This will keep your mind off the troubles of collecting your fee and you will be able to focus more on work. |
8. Avoid pessimism, accept criticism: |
| Another critical thing that diminishes a logo designer’s ability to work is pessimism. Avoid pessimistic mindset and always be open to all kinds of criticism from clients. Learn to accept constructive criticism so that you can correct your mistakes. Keeping disagreements and grudges always reduces your ability to think and work. I know it is a bit difficult to hear client censure and disapproval, but believe me accepting criticism will make you a better logo designer. |
9. Be a design geek, read books: |

| People define a geek as a nerdy, weird-haired, spectacle-wearing person who is a complete bookworm. Well, if wearing spectacles and reading books is worthy of being called a geek, then I am proud to be a design geek. Reading design related books not only increases your designer capabilities, it also broadens your horizons by understanding the logo design trends. |
10. Get overviews, read interviews: |
| Another fruitful way of increasing your designer knowledge is by learning from famous logo designers. No matter how talented you think yourself to be, always try getting viewpoints and perspectives of different logo designers by reading interviews and excerpts in design magazines. This will give you an understanding of different approaches in design. |
11. Don’t just sit, keep yourself fit: |

| As I mentioned earlier, a major portion of a logo designer’s time is spent sitting on the computer. This leads to several health-related issues, especially the carpel tunnel syndrome, which ultimately affects your productivity. Hence, logo designers must always take short breaks in between their assignments and do some quick exercises. Stretch out, straighten you back and take a short nap and you will notice an improvement in your speed of work. |
12. ‘No-Work policy’ on weekends: |
| You must have heard of this aphorism “God created the Earth in six days and on the seventh he rested”. Well if God deserves a rest after a long week of hard work then why not us logo designers? Some designers have a bad habit of being workaholics and work even during their weekends. This decreases their productivity and efficiency of work. Adopt a “no-work policy” on weekends and you will work faster and better the next week. |
